Admission requirements for school students in Jordan vary slightly depending on the grade level and whether the student is Jordanian or non-Jordanian, but typically involve submitting a set of core documents and, for older students, academic records and possibly entrance exams.

General Required Documents (K-12)

Most schools require the following documents for all students upon registration, in line with Ministry of Education regulations:

  • Birth Certificate:Original or a certified copy. For Jordanians, it should be certified by the Civil Registration Department.
  • Personal Photos:Two recent passport-sized photos.
  • Health/Vaccination Records:A health certificate and/or copy of the student’s vaccination card issued by a local health center.
  • Family Book Copy:Required for Jordanian students only.
  • Identification:Copy of the father’s/guardian’s ID.
  • Medical Form:A filled medical form and often a letter of undertaking.

Specific Requirements by Grade Level

  • KG and Grade 1:The primary requirement is age verification (e.g., minimum age for Grade 1 is typically 5 years and 8 months by August 31st of the enrollment year). Some schools may conduct a personal interview with the child.
  • Grades 2-12:Students transferring from other schools must provide:
    • Previous school report cards (marks certificates).
    • A transfer certificate from the previous school.
    • An academic record/student file (sijil al-talib) from the previous school, often transferred electronically via the OPEN EMIS system for students within Jordan.
    • Entrance or placement exams in subjects like English, Arabic, and Mathematics may be required, especially for international students or those seeking admission to specific programs.

Requirements for Non-Jordanian Students

Non-Jordanian students have additional requirements related to their legal status in the country:

  • Passport:A copy of a valid passport (certified copy for non-Jordanians).
  • Residency Permit:A copy of a valid residency card or residency stamped on the passport.
  • Document Authentication for International Transfers:Academic records for students transferring from schools outside Jordan must be certified by several authorities, including the Ministry of Education in the country of origin, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the country of origin, the Jordanian Embassy in the country of origin, the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and finally the Jordanian Ministry of Education in Amman to obtain an equivalency certificate and official acceptance letter. Organizations like AMIDEAST or the British Council handle the initial certification for American and UK curriculum students, respectively.
